WELCOME TO OUR COMMUNITY!
Real Estate has allowed us to pursue our journey from full-time employee to entrepreneur where THE BEACH IS MY OFFICE!
“The Beach Is My Office” began as the home for a blog about my journey from employee to entrepreneur as we pursued our dreams of financial freedom beginning with the purchase of our boat, Seas the Day. As our real estate business grew, it also became the home for “Jen Sells the Shore” and “Malcolm Sells the Mountains” where I share information for buyers and sellers along with property tours and information about the areas we serve (and live, work, and play) in Maryland and West Virginia.
I purchased this domain name the moment I set the goal to go from full-time employee to entrepreneur and began dreaming about building our own business! My ultimate goal was the freedom to work for myself from wherever I choose. This site was initially intended to be a place where we could share our failures and successes along the way in hopes of saving others time and frustration in building their own dream life! It has grown into so much more since that first day I declared that my goal was to make the beach my office!
The first step toward this ultimate goal and new reality was when my husband, Rodney, and I purchased our ’empty nest’ project, a boat! We bought a 44 foot 1983 Viking motor yacht that we named, “Seas the Day.” We also purchased a covered marina slip in Kent Island, Maryland by the Chesapeake Bay a few hours from our home in western Maryland.
Our boat began as our weekend getaway and escape from reality – a symbol of the NEW reality we were working towards. We share much of what we’ve learned from our boating adventures in our “Seas The Day” blog and YouTube channel, “Seas The Day: Our Boat and Our Mantra.”
Once the pandemic changed my daily work routine, I had the freedom to work remotely from our home in the mountains, aboard our boat, or from our family beach home in Ocean Pines. I fell in love with waking up to the sun coming through the windows of the boat and running my meetings through Zoom while looking out at the water from the dock!
As life returned to normal and the work routine began, I missed that time on the water and, on a whim, decided to leave the Lead Teacher job I loved and took a job as a Math Specialist at a school near the boat. Although I hoped that Rodney would follow my lead and make a similar move, his pragmatism was greater than my wanderlust, and as much as I loved life on the water, I didn’t want us to spend so much time apart.
As we discussed options, he encouraged me to follow my entrepreneurial dreams by getting my real estate license. Although building a business is difficult and requires long days and nights without any guarantee of income as you’re starting out, I have relished every moment! Knowing that my success or failure is completely dependent on my ability to build my business and attract clients is both terrifying and exhilarating! You can find more information about my real estate business on my Jen Sells the Shore & More Facebook Page, Jennifer Malcolm with EXP Realty (Google Business Profile), and links to all of my real estate information and social media accounts are easily accessible via my LinkTree.
After growing up in Central Maryland then moving to Washington County after marrying Rodney, I was already in love with that region. Having the opportunity to spend more time on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, both aboard our boat and at our family beach home in Ocean Pines, allowed me to learn about and also fall in love with the area. I celebrate the beauty and history of both the shore and the mountains of Maryland, sharing information about towns and neighborhoods across the state with my YouTube Channel, “Living in Maryland From the Mountains to the Shore”.
Because of our many connections to Rodney’s home state, West Virginia, I eventually added my West Virginia real estate license. With the freedom to travel to clients from the shore to the mountains, I have had the opportunity to help clients across the state of Maryland including Allegany, Washington, Baltimore, Dorchester, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties and have worked with buyers in Morgan, Berkeley, Jefferson, and Hardy Counties in West Virginia. Having the freedom to help so many people and see so many places has literally been a dream come true!
As we build our real estate and online businesses and create our dream life, we plan to continue to use this site to share the strategies and resources that we’ve learned along the way to help others achieve their goals more quickly! Check out the links on our homepage whether you’re looking for resources and tips about buying and selling real estate, properties for sale, an entrepreneurial community, or if you just want to enjoy following our journey documented in our blogs, we hope you find what you need here and we look forward to meeting and collaborating with you!
